Techniques for Food & Wine Pairing

Have you been experimenting different wine and food combinations but failed miserably in acquiring a tasty combination? Here is what you need to know!

Below mentioned are some techniques of paring food & wine that you must keep in mind before experimenting a combination of wine & food.

1. Regional Pairing: regional paring might not always be a perfect match. However, they act as a template for us to understand more about what happens structurally in wine and food paring.

2. Acid+Acid: Like acidity can be added together, this does not go with bitter and bitter together with food and wine. Acidity together creates the basis of what wine people think about when selecting a wine with a meal. If the acidity of wine in comparison with food is less, then the wine will taste flat. Hence, when pairing a particular dish with wine, consider its acid balance between the food and the wine.

3. Sweet+Salty: If you feel a combination of sweet and salt cannot win your hearts, a pairing of sweet wine and salty food will definitely impress you.

4. Bitter+Fat: This turns out to be a classic steak of combination of something fatty and a wine with lots of tannin.

5. Acid+Fat: A glass of Champagne to cut the fat is all it says! A high acid wine with a heavy dish of fats will deliver an interesting range of flavors for wine lovers.

6. Alcohol+Fat: Last, but not the  least, this is little strange pairing. However, there is a primary difference in a high alcohol drink and high acid drink that a high alcohol drink should not be used a palate cleanser as it might disappoint or trouble you.

So, when are you planning to pair one of these ways?

Basics for Food and Wine Paring

Wine & Dine is a popular concept that most of the wine lovers religiously follow. Well, if wine alone did not turn out to be your first love,  then Yes! To your surprise, a right combination of the wine and food could blow your minds with its incantation.

Here are the 6 basic profiles to work with when pondering about matching food and wine:

  1. Acidity in wine pairs fairly well with fatty and sweet foods.
  2. Fatty foods require either an acidic or high alcohol wine, else the wine might taste a little flabby.
  3. Bitter or tannic wine could be balanced with a sweet food
  4. Salty shouldn’t compete with the acidity in wine. Use sparingly as required to maintain the sharpness of the food or meal.
  5. Sweet food or wine could benefit from a little acidity.
  6. Alcohol could also be used to cut through fatty foods or balance a sweet dish.

So the next time you think of blending wine and food, make the right combination to have a fine dining experience with wine.

If you have already experimented some crazy food and wine combos at the Soma Vine Village in Nashik, you can also share your feedback with us on our Facebook Page

What are Boutique Vineyards?

You must have come across a term “boutique vineyard” that is often used in vineyards on your trip to any of the vineyards in Nashik or any other city.
So what exactly does this term refer to?

Boutique wines, at the most basic level are a term that is used to refer to a small winery and vineyard establishment that provides the public with specialized products and services. Yes, you heard it right! Specialized products and services!  Well, that is how this term can be related to with the Soma Vine Village and vineyard.
Considering the aam janta of India, we've all been to places like these where they're quaint, small, with a nice staff to answer your every need on both food and drinks. However, when compared with the winery behemoths, we can prefer to stick to such attractive and, more unique and heartfelt setting. Yet, what could be the exact definition?

How many cases of wine per year does it count to be considered to fall it into the small category? And is it that larger wineries do not provide the public with specialized products and services?
So, what does the word ”boutique” has to do with the wines or the vineyards?
Does the word "boutique" mean that the quality will be superior to that of their lower priced products? Or does it need to be expensive to qualify as specialized?  At present, these boutique wines, have turned out to be the go-to-drinks which are a must haves in the world of wine.

Understanding the term more widely and having in depth information about the same will give you more clarity of thought about “boutique vineyards”. So, we shall discuss about it in our next post in detail.

The difference between Champagne and Sparkling wine

Ever wondered why Sparkling wine sparkles and tastes fizzy? Well! That is because of the presence of a significant level of carbon dioxide in the sparkling wine.
Imagine the cork of a bottle is opened and the shrill bubble noise can be heard of the liquid as it is poured into a glass and handed over to you! Did you imagine it to be a glass of champagne in your hand? Many of us often get confused between a sparkling wine and champagne.  However, what stands  is common to both is that we all like them. There is something special about the bubbles, elegant glasses and that pale golden color that makes us feel festive and raise a toast for every happy moment of life. But this is where we stop exploring. Today, we are going to discuss the differences between champagne and sparkling wine.
The most popular of the sparkling wine options that are not Champagne as we mostly call them, include Cava, Prosecco and Cremant. What most of us would know that one of the differences between the two is the price! But that is not the only difference between these wines. Today, we are going to set the difference clear and here is something that you should know about Champagnes.
Champagne can only be grown in the Champagne region of France. It is made with Chardonnay, pinot noir and Pinot Meunier grapes. It is made in the traditional method Champenoise wherein the wine’s secondary fermentation is carried out in the same bottle it will be served from.
Prosecco hails from the Veneto region of Northeastern part of Italy that is produced primarily from the Prosecco or the Glera grape. Its secondary fermentation is done in a stainless steel tank which is a process known as the Charmat method.
Cava comes from Spain and is predominantly produced in Catalonia region using the traditional method Champenoise like champagne.

Cremant is the French sparkling wine produced in the Alsace, Bordeaux and a few other regions in a method similar to that of a champagne but is made with a wide variety of grapes.

What an end to a fabulous evening!

Do you agree that evenings of fine dining with our loved ones over a weekend are ought to be fantastic and times to remember?
Well! Absolutely!
This is what happened during a trip of one of our visitors.
Recently, a family of four came to visit us over a weekend. The parents in their 50s and the two children (a girl and a boy) in their early 20s planned to visit our Vine Village and here is what they had to say about their stay and experience.
We had heard about the Some Vine Village from our friends who happened to visit the place a few months back over a special occasion. After having heard about it from them, we had this place in our mind to consider visiting over a family get together. Months went by, but we could not manage to take out time for a small get together or a trip. But, finally some time back, we managed to get together and plan a nice weekend trip to the Soma Vine Village and it was fantastic!
We booked a resort at the Soma Vine village and were all set to experience magic as the ambience there was astounding! Must say the fine dining with a dessert wine that night was amazing! The Sauvignon Blanc Dessert Wine that is made out of handpicked grapes of their own estate vineyards and is pale yellow in color with a slight green tint tasted sensationally fabulous! There was Chenin Blanc dessert wine too, which, we were told is delicate pale lemon in colour with a tint of gold and is also produced in their own estate vineyards. The palate displays tropical fruit notes and touches of white peach and fresh pear.
The balanced and tasty wine over dinner was something that turned out to be favorite part of the trip for each one of us! We had an amazing time in the Samoa Vine Village and enjoyed each and every moment there. Thank You Soma Vine Village!

The fragrance surpassed the aroma of every other delicacy on the table. The bouquet wavered around the place swinging around the complete ambience of the place into a mesmerizing and a magical one.
